Licence and credits
BitDinghy is open source, and it stands on the work of many other open-source projects. Thank you to all of them.
BitDinghy’s licence
BitDinghy is licensed under either the MIT licence or the Apache License 2.0, at your option. You may use, copy, change and share it, including commercially, as long as you keep the licence and copyright notices. The source code will be published on GitHub with the first release.
Built with
BitDinghy wouldn’t exist without these projects in particular:
- librqbit by Igor Katson (Apache-2.0): the BitTorrent engine that does the downloading.
- egui and eframe by Emil Ernerfeldt and contributors (MIT or Apache-2.0): the window. Its built-in fonts are under the SIL Open Font License and the Ubuntu Font Licence.
- Tokio (MIT): runs everything that happens at the same time.
- SQLite (public domain), through rusqlite (MIT): the saved download list and history.
- rustls (Apache-2.0, MIT or ISC) and
reqwest (MIT or Apache-2.0): secure web links to
.torrentfiles. - clap (MIT or Apache-2.0): the
dinghycommand line. - Serde (MIT or Apache-2.0) and toml (MIT or Apache-2.0): reading and saving settings.
- egui_plot (MIT or Apache-2.0): the history charts.
- rfd (MIT): the “Open .torrent file” window.
- windows-sys by Microsoft (MIT or Apache-2.0): talking to Windows.
- Rust itself (MIT or Apache-2.0), the language BitDinghy is written in.
Every library and its licence
The list below is made automatically from the release itself, so it always matches what’s in the
zip. The full licence texts are in third-party notices, the same file
that comes with BitDinghy (THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.html). Where a library offers a choice of
licences, the list shows the one BitDinghy uses it under.

One library is under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, which asks that you can get its source code. BitDinghy uses it unchanged; the source code is here:
- option-ext 0.2.0 on crates.io (and its project page)

Trademarks
The BitDinghy name, logo and icons identify this project. They aren’t covered by the software’s MIT or Apache-2.0 licences (Apache-2.0 says so in its section 6) nor by the website’s CC BY 4.0 licence. You’re welcome to use them to talk about or link to BitDinghy. If you make your own version of BitDinghy, please give it a different name and logo, so nobody mistakes it for this one.
“BitTorrent” is a trademark of its owner. BitDinghy is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by them. Other names belong to their owners.
